Swingin’ for the Maestro

December 6, 2017, New York City – In honor of Barry Levitt, well known as “the Maestro”, The Barry Levitt Foundation was launched with Swingin’ for The Maestro:  A Barry Levitt Foundation Cabaret at the Iridium, a club with which Levitt had long and deep ties.   The evening was beautiful and bittersweet with remarkable performances by top entertainers and singers who worked with and loved The Maestro in cabaret, jazz and musical theater.

Barry Levitt was a music director, conductor, arranger, composer, pianist, producer, educator and songwriter who worked on Broadway, in musical theatre, television and cabaret, and led jazz and big bands. He served as president of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs and was artistic director of the Lyrics and Lyricists series at the 92nd Street Y.

The Barry Levitt Foundation is committed to provide music education to underserved populations in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  The Foundation provides instruction, instruments, performance support and scholarships to students.   It is their strong belief that no aspiring instrumentalist or vocalist should be discouraged because of their economic circumstances.
